Amazon buys Whole Foods, Netflix Surpasses Cable

The times they are a changin’.

Wow. It was seen as shocking news a few months ago when Amazon announced they would be opening a physical store that was mostly automated. Now the revolutionary eCommerce giant is purchasing – Whole Foods Market??!!

The implication here is that Amazon is getting serious about the Grocery space, and perhaps more specifically, grocery delivery. Either way, buying the nation’s most premium health food brand is a huge surprise for most everybody.

We’ve heard a lot this year about the price war between Whole Foods and Trader Joe’s, and how Whole Foods has been struggling due to their horrendously high prices. This might have been their easiest way to improve distribution to reduce costs and therefore prices for the consumer.

It will be exciting to see how this plays out.

Meanwhile in other news, Netflix now has more subscribers than Cable, which is being lauded as a huge milestone (and we agree).

Cord-cutting has obviously been a trend for a while, but it seems to be accelerating as the horrible cable monopoly starts to crack.

And good riddance! Who isn’t tired of their cable bill jumping $30 randomly and having to call to get a ‘special deal’ for another couple of months before having to repeat the cycle?

In any case, our consumer world is undergoing massive shifts at a frenzied pace. It is certainly an exciting time to be alive.
